Recruitment may have been the last thing on your mind over the last couple of weeks, but it’s important to have a strategy so that when things return to normal, you hit the ground running.
So how can you be ready, below are our top 5 tips on how to beat the rest and get your business first out of the starting blocks.
- Know what you need
Where are you likely to need to recruit for? what areas of your business are going to need additional staff? Draw up the job descriptions and adverts now to save time in the future. Be clear on salaries, type of job i.e. permanent, temporary, part-time, duties etc. - Have a process
A process is the key to a streamlined recruitment process. Will you use an agency or advertise the roles yourself? Will you hold telephone interviews prior to face to face or video calls? Who will organise the interviews? What are the interview questions? When will you go back to the candidates with a decision? Having all of this process in place will require a bit of work beforehand but will be worth the effort in the long run. - Advertise 56 days ahead
On average, it takes 56 days from advertising a role to someone starting. Work out when you need to have this person onboard and then work backwards to ensure you have plenty of time to get your role advertised. Where you advertise is up to you. You may decide to advertise your role on Facebook or LinkedIn or on one or more of the online job sites. To ensure you get the best pick of candidates, it could be worth looking at multiple options. - Have pre-interviews by phone
To save time at the face to face/video call interview stage, hold pre-interviews by telephone. Ask the same few questions of each candidate to get a feel of whether they are a good fit for your business. This will give you a shorter shortlist to go to full interview on. These interviews could be completed by someone in HR or from an agency. - Prepare an onboarding process
The job isn’t finished once you find the right person, make sure you have an onboarding process in place to integrate your new employee seamlessly. For more information, check out our blog – 7 steps to onboarding.
