First things first, don’t panic. We’re in unchartered territory at the moment and seeing lots of people being furloughed or being let go.
Here are our top seven tips on how to be prepared to get yourself back out into the recruitment market:
- Take a step back and decide what you really want to do as a job going forward. Now could be a perfect time to think about taking your career into another direction.
- Get your CV up to date. Make sure you really sell yourself and highlight your experience both in the workplace or outside of it.
- Register with a good recruitment company. There are some out there! Give a few a call and see who you feel most comfortable with.
- Get on social media. LinkedIn is a great place to let people know that you’re looking for your next opportunity, check out their job’s page too. Putting a post out on Facebook will highlight to friends and family that you are available for work, they might know of opportunities.
- Sign up to online job boards/sites for example – CV library, Reed or Spider’s Online Job portal – www.jobs.spiderrecruit.co.uk/, you can set up alerts to let you know when relevant jobs are posted.
- Don’t hang around. Get your CV and a great covering letter off as soon as you see a position you are interested in.
- And finally, make yourself available for interviews. At the present time this might be via a video call, make sure your technology is all set up, do a trial run to ensure there are no hiccups.
