Job Description

Business Development Manager –  One of the leading business membership organisations in Suffolk is looking for a Business Development Manager to recruit local businesses to join their organisation, manage the membership team and develop their sales acquisition and retention programme.

This exciting new role will suit a dynamic, confident and go-getting sales and business development manager with a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude. We are looking for someone who is driven by commercial success and excellent customer service, with a proven track record in successful sales and the ambition to grow their career.

You must have demonstrable experience of building, maintaining and utilising successful relationships with a wide range of business people and internal contacts, with the confidence to proactively seek out new business as well as ensuring our current members are fully maximising their membership. The ability to work with partners, stakeholders and others is important, and to be able to use expertise to shape a successful outcome, managing expectations and keeping everyone informed.

Working closely with the sales and customer relationship team and with the marketing, events and international trade teams, you will implement and develop a successful and profitable sales strategy that engages with new business, supports our current members and ensures cross-working. The role will cover the whole of Suffolk so a good knowledge of the county and its local business economy is a must.

As manager of a proactive team, you will need to have at least two years’ management or team leader experience, as well as at least two years’ experience in sales and business development. Experience of managing a small team, with an understanding of motivating and developing staff as well as delivering formal staff appraisals is essential, along with strong budget management skills.

With experience in presenting to a range of businesses, you will have outstanding communication and organisation skills as well as providing creative and innovative ideas for engaging with local businesses.

With a collaborative and proactive approach, you will have the ability to ‘think on your feet’ and problem solve under pressure as well as taking action and resolve issues as they arise, finding positive outcomes for customers and the business.

You will regularly have competing priorities, and so the ability to multi-task and manage your time efficiently is a must, along with excellent networking and negotiating skills and a positive and flexible approach to working, including some out of hours work.

Due to the nature of this role some travel is required and so a full driving licence and access to transport is necessary.
